Autoclave tape is an adhesive tape used in autoclaving to indicate whether a specific temperature has been reached. Autoclave tape works by changing color after exposure to temperatures commonly used in sterilization processes, typically 121°C & 134°C in a steam autoclave.
The Bowie-Dick Test is a standard operational test by which hospitals and laboratories can demonstrate proper air removal from their pre-vacuum autoclave chamber. It is primarily useful fortesting pre-vacuum cycles that are sterilizing wrapped goods or packs.
This test is suitable for every sterilization process in a loaded autoclave. It can also be used to ensure maximum steam penetration where hollow instruments, or instruments with small lumina, are concerned. The Helix strips are in compliance with EN 867-5 and EN-ISO 11140-1 (Type 2).
